A word of Warning...
As a tolerated outsider, I am morally bound to offer a word of caution to any human who is either foolish or brave enough to journey into the dangerous world of the fey.
The Tuatha de' Danann, also known as the Shining Ones or Old Ones, are a beautiful race of ancients who are all but immortal. Long ago, this once united race split into two warring factions, both holy and unholy.
The Light Court or Seelie Court has traditionally maintained a relatively benevolent relationship with humanity throughout the centuries. If you can secure the protection of the Seelie Queen, I strongly suggest you do so. Queen Gwenhwyfar and her guardsmen have come to my rescue on more than one occasion. The seelie by nature are lovers of honor and tradition. Typically fair-haired and golden or pale in complexion, they have often been mistaken for angels.
The mirror opposite of the seelie are the unseelie. The Dark Court or Unseelie Court very often go out of their way to create obstacles for the seelie, especially in regards to the gifts bestowed upon the fledgling race of men. If at all possible, avoid the unseelie. They lie as a matter of course and have very limited use for humans. If you survive a meeting with one, and are unlucky enough to appeal to their rampant carnal desires, you might very well end your days as a pet in one of their pleasure dens. Although some modern accounts of unseelie paint them as ugly, this is far from accurate. The unseelie are just as beautiful as the seelie, but dark in their features and brooding in their demeanor. The male-fey are the ultimate expression of bad boy sexy.
In order to survive an encounter with either type of fey, you must remember these simple rules:
- Never, never touch. It takes only one brush with their skin to become a member of the enchanted.
- Carry iron with you. It is the only substance that can kill them. The only other option is to behead them, and not many humans keep a sword handy.
- Do not accept any gifts. No gift is without its price. It is always tit for tat with the fey, so avoid owing them at all costs.
- Pray. Although this usually doesn't help much, it may ease your fear.
If I may... I would like to offer one last piece of advise to any fellow traveler. Before you begin your search for the fey, take the time to explore the various life accounts I have dutifully recorded for both seelie and unseelie. Knowing their true names and stories might very well save your life.
